St. Boniface University

This university is the oldest post-secondary educational institution in Western Canada and is home to one of three Louis Riel statues in Winnipeg. This one was created by Franco-Manitoban sculptor Marcien Lemay and Étienne Gaboury, located outside on the building’s East side facing Aulneau Street. For many years, this sculpture sat behind Manitoba’s Legislative Building but was removed after a heated public debate over its portrayal of Riel as an emotionally tormented and troubled individual.
