{"id":1896,"date":"2020-08-28T15:06:05","date_gmt":"2020-08-28T19:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/?p=1896"},"modified":"2021-04-12T12:47:51","modified_gmt":"2021-04-12T16:47:51","slug":"passion-histoire-blog-art-in-saint-boniface-la-maison-des-artistes-visuels-francophones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/en\/passion-histoire-blog-art-in-saint-boniface-la-maison-des-artistes-visuels-francophones\/","title":{"rendered":"PASSION &#038; HISTOIRE BLOG &#8211; Art In Saint-Boniface: La Maison Des Artistes Visuels Francophones"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-10 col-lg-10 col-md-12 col-sm-12 col-12 mx-auto\"><strong>One of Saint-Boniface\u2019s secrets is undoubtedly the little art gallery at 219 Provencher: la Maison des artistes visuels francophones.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"description\" class=\"row block-sm\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-10 col-lg-10 col-md-12 col-sm-12 col-12 mx-auto\">\n<p>This gallery was founded by a group of francophone and M\u00e9tis artists that weren\u2019t adequately represented in the artistic world at the time.\u00a0 They went on to open their own art gallery that continues to promote art and make it accessible to as many people as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The space features the main gallery that hosts five to six exhibitions a year, and the studio that hosts a dozen. All of the artists on exhibition in the main gallery are chosen by a jury based on a theme (in 2020, it\u2019s home) and they have one thing in common:\u00a0 they have to be able to communicate in French. About one half originate from Western Canada.<\/p>\n<p>La Maison des artistes is celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2020 and if all of the scheduled events can\u2019t proceed as planned, an exhibition combining six early stage artists and six emerging artists awaits us this winter.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/tllumHH6rzDX12mhkdA2uqEiwY76_L2SbAtMENzL0TMcy9LLqQIoGG28DDlVWfwCErcoRzZUZBb4WHw2XOsYI2DJtvKie5M-GIZj9XIdolo-IfW_HwWgV0LD0Iy9cSkrktpKNB4S\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>When I visited the gallery in late August 2020, Charley Farrero, a French-Canadian living in Saskatchewan, had installed and displayed his half-serious, half-silly ceramic works in the main area.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-XuQrSsTrcaL7rRTxIbTkHtHuq9SZWz4JVZkPCpOsQEvRjYCfa1w1OCVaayGG-vb9XJi9_YhlACp79uHDMa9o7o-n70TqLDscfzMpkVDhDroLlV_EjuhXIZOb4eQgmwlQNu5dlH4\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/aRD-nkNoh2CYjxxC-EvlinQQPBtgTlXc69rXrzRnYC69QfUdYHLj3bz2nzUelaldKxD4fcZuouoKn2iVwgGJ_Zn1-nLDKLXtIUs9AC3uidIMW6OyQ__CAZGb4qRodcgLvqTd-HsG\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>In the studio, we met with Franco-Manitoban artist Monique Fillion and her vintage style painting-photography.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/ft1FEgWZn650EjcGuR3z80tNSBhFp-jCT1z_YOYkuMiwVKcJhKsBhQl1FGq8a11JlAk4eSxn5-uicTl-kYthn2r4Azz1v80NowNT2GWFZw4xB2BeSQzBLErQc7cOHKlp7laxgMs1\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Here is the end-of-year programming for the Maison des artistes!<\/p>\n<p>From October 8th to November 21st, 2020, the main gallery will showcase the works of Janine-Annette Littman, a Manitoba artist who marries textile with photography.\u00a0 November 25th to December 19th, 2020 will mark the 20th anniversary exhibition with 12 Manitoban artists.\u00a0 After a well deserved break over the holidays, the gallery will display the work of Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois sculptor Ito Le\u00efla LeFran\u00e7ois from January 4th to April 3rd, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In the studio, from September 3rd to 26th, 2020, you can see an exhibition featuring work by Jen Funk and Alexis Lagimodi\u00e8re-Gris\u00e9 (from Manitoba), followed by Nichol Marsh from October 8th to 31st, 2020.\u00a0 A showing that has not been determined yet will then precede the exhibition for members that will take place November 25th to December 9th, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>La Maison des artistes has also established an online presence with a series of interviews with artists on social media as well as various draws on their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LaMaisondesartistesvisuels\/\">Facebook page<\/a>.
