Who paints them? Where? Why? How long? I have all those answers!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It all started back in 2014. St\u00e9phane Dorge was pushing to have bicycle paths constructed along Provencher boulevard. But things were moving too slowly and he decided to shift his focus to a project that could be realised faster, therefore allowing the community to benefit from it sooner. Thus, this mural project was born.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, eleven murals were painted for the Canada Summer Games. Then in 2018, the Maison des Artistes joined the project, a non-profit organization that promotes the work of Francophone visual artists. The goal is to brighten up the city, and its pedestrian bridges, in particular to encourage their usage. If the bridges are beautiful, people will want to see for themselves, to talk about them, therefore reinforcing their importance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 2020, thanks to the pandemic, all of these bridges are getting plenty of hype on Instagram. A whole new demographic of people who don\u2019t live near the Seine river are now discovering these neighbourhoods and walking paths<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3111\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3111\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3112\" src=\"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cool-street-winnipeg-bridges.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cool-street-winnipeg-bridges.jpg 800w, https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cool-street-winnipeg-bridges-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cool-street-winnipeg-bridges-768x334.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seine River bridges in 2020. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, with the support of the CCFM (Franco-Manitoban cultural centre) and city councillors, the colourful bridges are back!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bridges are painted by artists found through Instagram or by word of mouth. Bridges are assigned to them randomly, depending on availability and the weather. Painting a bridge takes a few days, according to the numerous volunteers on site to help with the production : half the bridge must be accessible to pedestrians at all times. If there\u2019s rain, you have to give the bridge a day to dry before starting or continuing the painting process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3110\" src=\"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pont-alex-plante-details.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pont-alex-plante-details.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pont-alex-plante-details-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pont-alex-plante-details-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/passionethistoire.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pont-alex-plante-details-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The paint is non-toxic and acrylic based so the paintings have fairly short lifespans. Why? But with help from the map and list below as well as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/coolstreetswpg\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cool Streets Winnipeg<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s social media, you can plan your excursions to see the recently painted bridges as the summer progresses.
